Short Synopsis
LUSINE (17), a student from an Armenian immigrant family works as a part time cashier in a small grocery store in Los Angeles. She’s pregnant from her African American boyfriend MATTHEW, (17, classmate at photography class), but she can’t tell her parents as they are very traditional and have a racial inequality problems. Lusie thinks about abortion.
Her parents give dinner for Sako (29 rich Armenian guy, Lusine’s older brother Garnik’s best friend) who is interested in having a relationship with Lusine, and her parents believe that he is the best match for her.
Lusine doesn’t like Sako but she can’t argue her parents’ decision. She calls Matthew and asks that either they have to break up or marry. Matthew answers that they don’t need to rush.
At the middle of the dinner Matthew arrives bringing her photo camera as an excuse to meet with Lusine. Matthew says that he’s Lusune’s boyfriend. Garnik and his friends attack Matthew, knocking him down to the floor. Lusine rushes to help him.
She seeks support from her Dad as they are very close but gets a slap from him. Guests drag Lusine by her arms. She shouts that she HATES THEM ALL!
She enters the house, grabs a bottle of vodka and drinks. Lusine sees a skewer in the sink, grabs it and almost in frenzy stabs the skewer to her abdomen with both hands. Massive blood flows down.
Dinner continues. Armenian traditional song starts — “THE WORLD IS OURS, EVERY ARMENIAN IN THE WORLD IS THE OWNER OF THE WORLD…
